Where does property fit in the world of Human Rights?
On the one hand, the subject is partly rooted in the idea of respect for property, for the enjoyment of possessions. On the other, is there anything that has done more damage to equality, to dignity, than this unequal accumulation of property that we’ve seen throughout history, and particularly in the world of capital?
So this track is about the relationship that we, as human rights believers and advocates, have with this complex notion of property. Are we in favour of possession or against it? Do we go to the point of expropriation, or do we greet all accumulation as evidence of freedom?
