Hello. This week’s track is, perhaps, counter-intuitive. It’s called Up With The Unions.
It argues that, despite the strikes, and the turmoil and the disturbance that many of us feel unions cause through their insistence on the rights and interests of their workers, despite all this, we human rights people should view unions as allies. That they have provided a tremendous range of benefits for their members and, through their members, for society as a whole.
So this track is based on challenging some of our assumptions about who our allies are in the world of human rights. I expect a number of responses that might not entirely agree with me – and not only from people stuck in traffic jams or missing flights.
